Prof. Ashraf Nabhan & Prof. Bassam Dally Among the Top 2% of Most-Cited Researchers Worldwide

As avid advocates of Arab brilliance in scientific research, we at SASTA are always on the lookout for success stories to share with the proud Arab public. An easy place to find such inspiring stories is Stanford University’s annual list of the world’s most cited researchers, based on Scopus database data.

To rank on such a list, curated by one of the most recognizable research institutes in the world, is to be in the upper echelon of scientists on Earth. It fills us with pride that Arabs have ranked on the list for years, including Dr. Islam M. Saadeldin whose illustrious story we recently covered.

But today, SASTA is honoured to celebrate Professor Ashraf Nabhan and Professor Bassam Dally for being among Stanford’s top 2% most cited scientists in the world.

Professor Nabhan has been a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Medicine in Egypt since 2009. One question laid the foundation for Professor Nabhan’s exceptional research stature: “What’s best for my patients?”

To answer this question whenever it pops up, Professor Nabhan has always committed to evidence-based medical practice. Such commitment led him to connect with global health authorities, such as the World Health Organization, where he has played crucial roles, including currently as Vice-Chair of the Human Reproduction Programme Alliance.

Professor Nabhan additionally helped Cochrane establish a deeper presence in Egypt by leading the onboarding of Cochrane Consumers in Egypt for the first time. To support more physicians in following evidence-based practices, it is worth noting that Professor Nabhan also founded the Egyptian Center for Evidence-Based Medicine.

As for Palestinian-born Professor Dally, he is one of the Arab World’s top subject matter experts on sustainability and powering a green future. Since 2013, he has been a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Adelaide in Australia.

Professor Dally has published over 300 integral research papers covering various topics, including combustion science and engineering, renewable energy, renewable fuels, aerodynamics and applied laser diagnostics. Just as impressive is the fact that his research ventures are impact-driven, as he and his teams have collected over $54M in research grants. Plus, Professor Dally is a co-inventor of two patents.

Congratulations to Professor Nabhan and Professor Dally on their remarkable achievement and their extraordinary research legacies.

AlJazeera recently covered this achievement and has more info in Arabic on the journeys of Professor Nabhan and Professor Dally. Read AlJazeera’s article here.
