December 30-31, 2012, Dr. Shaker Mousa, SASTA board member was invited to speak and participate in the 8th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World’s Arab Regional Office (TWAS-ARO), which was held at Bibliotheca Alexandrina under the theme “The Role of Science, Engineering and Technology in Achieving Sustainable Human Development in the Arab Region”. Dr. Mousa’s presentation entitled “presentation entitled “Catalysts for Human Capacity Building and Development in the Arab World: Key Role for Arab Expatriate Scientists” highlighted the key role that SASTA and Arab scientists in the diaspora can play in advancing higher education, research and development in the Arab world. It provided examples of SASTA’s achievements at various levels highlighting the latest conference at the Arab league. Dr. Mousa discussed the critical need for translational research using various enabling technologies (Nano, biotechnology, bioinformatics,..) in bringing high level of innovation, IP disclosure, and commercialization in order to fund and sustain future Education, R & D in the Arab world. He focused on the value of Collaboration for true success and used Pharmaceutial Research Institute (PRI) as an example for sustained value regeneration. He then addressed the questions from the audience about how AES can help through SASTA.
