Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) celebrated the commencement of the first class of the innovative program in the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR).
The ceremony for graduation of 16 faculty and 3 graduate students in the first cohort of the program took place in the presence of Dr. Omar Al-Jarrah, the President of JUST and Dr. Wael Al-Delaimy, the RCR Program Director at the University of California, San Diego, who is also the Chairman of SASTA Board of Directors.
The Fellowship program is led by the University of California San Diego in collaboration with Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), and it involves 12 months of graduate-level coursework and a practicum. A team of 32 faculty members are involved including 4 leading instructors, and 5 advising experts from the United States to help develop the next generation of researchers to carry out high quality and ethically acceptable research.
“The graduation was the fruit of several years of effort to fund this program to achieve the goal of elevating the status of research quality in the Arab region”, says Al-Delaimy. “I am extremely excited about the graduation of the first batch of Fellows and the future cohorts who will form the nucleus of experts in responsible conduct of research in the region. In the second year we have fellows enrolled from Iraq, Egypt and Yemen and we will be expanding to Fellows from other Arab countries in the coming two years as well”, Al-Delaimy says.
This program is funded by the Fogarty International Center at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the program is opened for applications annually every Spring.
